
Stop Treating Your Bathroom Heater Like a Toaster
Most people think of infrared lamps in the bathroom as just a way to stop shivering while they get dressed. But we look at them differently. For us, it’s not about warming up the air—it’s about fighting the things you can’t see.
The War on Mold
Here is the thing about mold: it loves those cold, damp corners where the air just sits still. Standard heaters don’t really help here because heat rises. Your forehead feels warm, but your lower walls and grout stay cold and soggy. That’s why we use short-wave infrared. Instead of heating the air, these waves dive deep into your walls and ceilings. It’s like a targeted strike. By warming the actual surface of the wall, we push the temperature past the point where mold can even start to grow. It basically bakes the moisture right out of your paint and grout.
Drying Things Out, Fast
When you flip the switch on a high-wattage IR lamp, it creates a sudden jump in temperature. This forces the water hiding on your surfaces to evaporate into the air almost instantly. If you’ve got a decent exhaust fan running, that moisture gets sucked out of the room in a flash. It’s way faster than waiting for a towel rail or a baseboard heater to do the job. It just gets the room dry and crisp.
A Few Things to Watch Out For
Now, you can’t just throw these into any ceiling and call it a day. These lamps gethot. Really hot. You need to make sure there’s plenty of breathing room between the lamp and your ceiling. If you’re dealing with cheap PVC or thin drywall, you’ll probably want some heat shields or a deeper mount. You don’t want to accidentally warp your fixtures or scorch the ceiling. And for heaven’s sake, don’t leave them on 24/7. You’ll burn through your electricity bill and kill the filaments. Just hook them up to a timer or a humidity sensor. A few short, intense bursts are all you need to keep the mold away and the room feeling fresh.
