Let’s be honest: bathrooms are a nightmare for electronics. Between the thick steam from your morning shower and the constant temperature swings, it’s basically a torture chamber for any piece of hardware. Most heaters just aren’t built for that. The “Steam Room” Test
We take our lamps and housings and shove them into humidity chambers. We blast them with extreme wet-heat cycles over and over. It sounds overkill, but it’s the only way to be sure. Here’s why: moisture loves to find a way in. It hunts for tiny gaps in the seals and attacks the spot where the glass meets the metal. If a seal fails, oxygen leaks into the halogen tube and the filament burns out in minutes. Poof. Gone. We also keep a very close eye on insulation resistance. If moisture creeps into the wiring or the connectors, you get leakage current. In a bathroom, that’s not just a technical glitch—it’s a safety risk. We push these units until the gaskets give up or the contacts start to rust.
Choosing the Right Stuff
To survive that kind of abuse, we had to get picky about materials. We use specific grades of quartz and coatings that don’t care about corrosion. Now, high-wattage lamps give you that instant heat we all love in the winter, but they put a ton of stress on the brackets. We tried the cheaper plastics. They’re great for the bottom line, but they warp when you mix 100% humidity with a 500°C lamp. Not a good look. So, we stick with aluminum or treated steel. It keeps the housing from sagging and looking like a melted candle after a few months.
