Engineering Ultra-Long Shortwave Infrared Heating Tubes for Continuous Glass Tunnel Kilns
When you’re running a massive glass operation, you need heat that can keep up. We built our shortwave infrared heating tubes for exactly that—big, relentless, and evenly spread across a huge space. For ultra-long glass tunnel kilns, we’re talking heating units that stretch well over 2 meters, lined up in a continuous chain. This isn’t just a longer version of a standard lamp. It’s a whole heating system, rethought from the ground up to deliver steady heat in a straight line.
Power, Voltage, and Size—What It Really Takes
A standard element won’t cut it here. We custom-build these tubes to hit lengths over 2 meters, and the power has to match that scale. To push energy all the way down the line, we use high-voltage setups—often around 400V. That keeps the power stable from one end to the other, so you don’t get that annoying cold spot at the far end. Wattage is tuned to your glass throughput and the temperature you need for curing or forming. The payoff? Lightning-fast heating response. More power means quicker cycles. But there’s a catch. That concentrated heat means your kiln’s cooling and airflow have to be just as thoughtfully designed. You need to keep the surrounding temperature in check.
The Tough Stuff: Materials and Design That Hold Up
At the core is the quartz envelope. It’s chosen because it can handle rapid temperature swings without cracking. You can go from room temperature to full operating heat quickly and safely. Inside, a halogen-filled environment protects the filament. It keeps the output steady and extends the tube’s working life, so performance doesn’t fade over time. And when you’re wiring up a long string of heaters, connectors matter a lot. We use rugged, high-temperature connectors like R7s or SK15. These aren’t just plugs—they’re built to carry serious current and stand up to the heat right where the wires meet the tube. They make installation cleaner, faster, and cut down on points that could fail.
Why This Works for Continuous Glass Kilns
In a tunnel kiln, the glass never stops moving. One uneven heating element can ruin the whole run. Our long-length design eliminates those gaps. The infrared field is continuous and even, so every inch of glass gets the same energy along the heating zone. Whether you’re swapping out an old system or spec’ing a new kiln, this is a direct, drop-in fit. You get predictable control, faster line speeds, and less wasted energy from uneven heating. And it’s built to survive the grind of heavy industry, day after day.
